ABOUT ME
Papercutting starts with the first cut
Florence studied art at Die Kruin High school of art.
She is a Struisbaai based artist and works mainly with paper. She uses traditional papercutting techniques to create her artworks. Her work is inspired by the natural world and the things she encounters in the world around her. The medium she used over the years was mostly drawings and painting, but in 2016 she started experimenting with papercutting.
Her paper cut works are hand cut from a single sheet of paper. They are first drawn out by hand on the reverse of the paper, and then cut with a scalpel.
They can take hours to complete and she finds that the process is just as important as the finished pieces. The simplicity of a blank sheet of paper appeals to her.
She says:" Paper is used in so many aspects of our lives, and I want to communicate this through my work. There is nothing as ordinary as a blank sheet of paper, but it has so many possibilities and can be turned into something beautiful or meaningful, without adding anything to it."

Creating paper cuttings with a visual identity
The main feature of all my works is the individual identity that makes each art work stand out from the rest.
